How it works
Social Security averages your 35 highest-earning years (earnings above the 2026 cap of $184,500 don't count), divides by 420 months, and applies the 2026 formula: 90% of the first $1,286 a month, 32% up to $7,749, and 15% above. Claiming before 67 cuts it — by 5/9% a month for the first 36 months and 5/12% after — and every year you wait past 67 adds 8%, up to 70.
